The Ticker Tape Parade

What a week to live in San Francisco! Halloween, the Giants' victory, November elections, Dia de los Meurtos, and then the Giants' Championship Parade. The Metromint office, located just 4 blocks from the thick of the Parade, closed operations early on Wednesday so our team could head out to enjoy the festivities. The turnout is believed to be the largest in San Francisco's history for a parade or a civic event. I'm not even a baseball fan, but the excitement on the street was palpable and a cool thing to see and feel first hand. Go Giants!

Back in March 2007, we supported a man with incredible strength and endurance who was running for something…and he just so happened to be holding a bottle of Metromint while chatting it up with our country’s next President, Barack Obama. The man we supported was Steve Shriver, CEO and founder of Eco Lips, who conceived and completed the Organic Endurathon. That is, Steve ran 260 miles across Iowa's varied terrain to promote organics and celebrate Earth Day 2007. Albeit sublime coincidence, I guess innovators can, and usually do, wind up in the same circles.

bocce in the park

While training for the upcoming Pan-American Bocce Championships, SF Chronicle writer Julian Guthrie stopped by the Aquatic Park Bocce Club to ask me a few questions. It was nice to see her again as we’d met in 2003 when she did a piece about our club. Her latest story was about all the retrofitting projects taking place at Aquatic Park & especially the Maritime Museum. Her photographer asked to take a few action shots and coincidentally I was wearing my Metromint All-Stars jersey. I have Metromint at the club, so we all enjoyed our favorite flavors during the shoot.

A few days later it was great to open the Chronicle to see a shot of me throwing a ball! Hopefully all this construction at the park will continue to have a positive effect on the Aquatic Park Bocce Club. So far, so good.
