Hosting the Giro di San Francisco

This was my 2nd year planning the expo area at our Giro di SF and I’m happy to report that it was a smooth operation! Weather is a key factor in planning outdoor events so I was very excited when I found out there was a sunny weather forecast for Labor Day weekend.

A fun expo involves vendor participation and this year our expo area was filled with The Free Wheel’s bike support service, Giant Bike’s 2011 race bikes, De La Paz iced coffee, Bear Naked granola, Flex Power sports cream (see photo on right of me with Flex Power friends), Sports Basement’s lounge area, Rock Tape’s taping station, Breakaway Performance’s consultation, and even a banana costume. Our vendors also sponsored the Giro with numerous prize donations for primes, a motivating component of a criterium. Overall, the beautiful SF weather brought an amazing race day and spectators enjoyed cheering for their cyclists. Thank you to all the competitors, sponsors, and volunteers for making this year’s Giro a success!

Emerson Elementary walk-a-thon

At Metromint we believe in the power of community. So we support
community events and nonprofit organizations with in-kind donations of
Metromint.  We recently sent 10 cases of Chocolatemint to the
Emerson Elementary School Walk-a-thon in Berkeley. Each student who
participated  received a bottle to keep them hydrated as they walked to
raise money for the PTA. We look at it as our contribution to helping make
the world a better, healthier place, one case at a time. The kids just
thought it was cool.

I am writing to report that there is a new addition to the Metromint family this week. Metromint founder Rio Muira and President Scott Lowe are the proud new parents of their fourth child, a boy, born on Tuesday, September 23. More info to come, but for now a photo:

When my eyes start opening wide and I start grinning after 10:00 pm, my husband Scott knows what is happening to me. "New ideas!” I don’t know why but I am always thinking about new products which are mostly related to food or beverage. I started to take notes of these ideas with my sketches for years and Metromint was one of them.

When I tried making the first Metromint, it was so funny. It happened at our kitchen one night….all of sudden I decided to put an Altoid in a glass of water, and then a big light hit! It was a moment that I will never forget. I am so excited about creating things— making a sand castle on the beach with my kids ( 6yr and 5yr) or new kinds of beverages for our business. Of course, the beverage making has more risk than the sandcastle making, but I have Scott. He covers various hurdles, letting me walk without having to worry about the challenges along the way— so I can still grin at 10:00pm. Scott and I are great team!

We recently became parents of #3. Baby Eri was born on March 14th at 4:44 am. It was such a fun time delivering Eri. I absolutely enjoyed every moment of the labor. And I am still thrilled doing all the work involved with having a new born in my life, and not enough sleep! Babies are a miracle & fascinating….I am so lucky to have one more chance to raise a person. Is this something to do with “creating?” Then yes, I love being a mom!
